Saints Volleyball Stays Strong Despite Adversity

The Randall University Women's Volleyball team has faced more than their fair share of adversity this season, yet they continue to rise to the challenge and play with heart. Early in the season, during a road trip to Iowa, the Saints were forced to cancel five straight matches due to unforeseen circumstances. A break like that can easily throw a team off rhythm, but the Lady Saints refused to let it define them.

Despite the challenges, Randall bounced back and went 2-2 this past week, earning wins over Ozark Christian College and Kansas Christian College. The team has also had to adapt without their legendary Head Coach, Mike Freeman, on the sidelines as he deals with personal matters. Coach Freeman, who has built a long-standing tradition of excellence within Randall Volleyball, continues to be deeply involved with the program—offering constant support, guidance, and mentorship to his players and staff. His leadership and influence remain a driving force behind the team's resilience and determination.

In his absence during games, first-year assistant coach Katelyn Crosby, a former All-American for the Saints, has stepped up in a big way. Crosby has done a stellar job leading the team, keeping them focused, prepared, and motivated through each match.

The adversity didn't stop there. On Friday, October 10, during a match against Arlington Baptist, star junior outside hitter Kimberly Phelps went down with an ankle injury. Phelps had been having an outstanding season, averaging a career-high 3.08 kills per set. She is expected to return in time for the region tournament, and her teammates are rallying in her absence.

Even with these obstacles, the Lady Saints continue to compete with energy, unity, and determination. Standout performers include Addyson Day, who is averaging 3.10 kills per set, and Kylie Thompson, a senior setter averaging nearly 8 assists per set in region play. Ella Seay has been a steady presence in the middle, while Briseida Acosta has showcased her versatility by contributing across multiple positions. Cailynn Harvey and Addison Kennedy have also provided a much-needed spark for the Saints, bringing energy and positivity both on and off the court.

Every member of this team deserves recognition for their resilience and positive attitude. With the continued leadership of Coach Freeman and the commitment of the entire program, the Lady Saints keep fighting and representing Randall University with pride.
