Saints Baseball Opens the Year with Sweep over Southwestern College

The Randall Saints baseball team opened the 2026 season in strong fashion, sweeping Southwestern College (KS) in a home-opening doubleheader on February 3.

Game 1: Randall 6, Southwestern 3
Randall broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third inning and never looked back. Jason Carrell delivered the biggest swing of the opener, driving in two runs with a clutch single in the third to give the Saints the lead. Yulian Gaston set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Jett Milsap and Gaston each doubled as part of Randall's six-hit attack

On the mound, Ethan Flaherty worked through traffic in his 3.2 innings before Jace Shipley shut the door in relief. Shipley earned the win by allowing just two runs over 3.1 innings, stabilizing the game after Southwestern closed the gap in the middle frames

Game 2: Randall 9, Southwestern 8
The second game was a back-and-forth battle that showcased Randall's resilience. After Southwestern built multiple early leads, the Saints responded with timely offense, highlighted by a massive six-run swing across the sixth and seventh innings. The biggest moment came in the sixth when Jason Carrell crushed a three-run home run to left field, instantly flipping the momentum and igniting the Randall dugout

Jett Milsap had an outstanding all-around performance, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, then closing out the game on the mound in the ninth to earn the win. Yulian Gaston added two more hits and two runs, while JT Cappadona and Jaxon Keyser each drove in key runs as Randall pieced together nine runs on just nine hits

Across both games, the Saints combined timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and bullpen depth to secure the sweep. Gaston and Milsap consistently sparked the offense, while Carrell's run-producing swings — including the decisive three-run homer — stood out as defining plays. The Saints opened the season 2–0, setting an early tone of toughness and execution heading into the rest of the year.
